Imagine there were a , a that was both good and caring. Who could do anything. How good would that be? How much easier life would be?
John Lennon wrote his famous song asking us to imagine if there were no religions. A beautiful song with a great question, but perhaps it would be equally useful to ask, what if there were a who loved and care and could do anything.
Imagine a great, caring, powerful who created all things and loved all of his creation. Who loved all animals and all people. Who watched his creation with love and a willingness to do whatever it took to make it successful and those in it happy. Is not this what you would imagine a loving, powerful to do?
Can you imagine such a loving to remain hidden, to remain hard to see and hear? Can you imagine such a standing back as his creation spiraled into violence, poverty, homelessness and hate? Letting children and the weak suffer horrible wars and diseases? Letting the strong grow souls of hate and indifference? Can you imagine him being as humans are, full of pettiness and vengefulness?
Or would you imagine such a loving to be open and eager to speak and interact with all people and even animals? To take steps to prevent violence, poverty, homelessness and hate from even starting? To prevent and stop children and the weak from suffering horrible wars and diseases? And to step in to help the strong before they become hateful and indifferent towards those around them. Would not a loving, powerful be better than humans?
Imagine there were a , a that was both good and caring. Would he allow the Earth to every be as it is now? Would he allow wars, violence, poverty, homelessness, and hate?
Why would anyone think that he would?
Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense. -Chapman Cohen, author and lecturer (1868-1954)
