The Evolving Monkey

Why you will always do your best, even if you don’t try to

  • First reason
    • Everyone wishes for the best life possible
    • Everyone seeks happiness and fulfillment
    • Everyone hopes each day will be a good day
    • No one wishes to sabotage their own life and happiness
  • Second reason: If a you have two choices…
    • To do a good job with the possibility of something good at the end of the job or even during the job…
    • Or doing a bad job just for the hack of it, knowing you are giving up the possibility of a great reward…
    • You will always seek to do a good job

  • However…
    • Although you will always do your best, you will not always do all you are capable of doing
    • And other people, everyone, will always do their best, although they too might not do all they are capable of
  • Your limited in understanding of what you are capable of
    • You might not do all that you can if you do not realized you can do more
    • You might have grown up with a diminish understanding of your abilities
    • You might have low expectations of the future and not believe doing a better job is worth the effort (will bring little reward)
    • You might tell yourself you are doing all you are capable, even though you are not, perhaps to make yourself feel better
    • Or you might judge that your best is not needed in a situation and decide to save your efforts for something more important. In which case you are living up to your capabilities by saving your resources for something more important.
  • Our judgments of other people
    • Every person you see or know who seems lazy or uncaring is doing their best
    • They might not be doing all they capable of, but they are doing their best
    • They simply do not know how to do better
    • Or they are being held back from doing better by circumstances
    • But everyone, even you, always does their best
  • How people are prevented from doing all they are capable of
    • They don’t know what they are capable of
    • They don’t know how to do what they are capable of
    • Their living conditions prevent them from doing more
    • Their mental condition prevents them from doing more
    • They have no hope

You must accept that you might fail; then, if you do your best and still don’t win, at least you can be satisfied that you’ve tried. If you don’t accept failure as a possibility, you don’t set high goals, you don’t branch out, you don’t try – you don’t take the risk.
